Dichroic Alchemy Safety

The most important things to remember to keep yourself safe with BoroCoatingsTM by Dichroic Alchemy are:

1.) Don’t breathe the metals: BoroCoatings by Dichroic Alchemy should always be cut on the glass side, not the side that the metal has been applied. Cutting on the metal side cuts trough the metal making it airborn like glitter. I feel like this glitter substance floating in the air may be hazardous over long periods of time so cutting on the glass side eliminates this danger.

2.) Protect your eyes: ALWAYS use a shade #5 welding lens or greater when applying color to the BoroCoatings. The metals in the color rod are extremely bright when heated and can cause eye damage with regular didydium glasses.

3.) Ventilate: Always have ample fresh air coming in and lots of exhaust going out of your shop because the torch burns up the oxygen in the room and the color rod releases fumes into the air as well when heated.

4.) Glass is sharp: Use a soft leather apron to clean the BoroCoatings. It is sooo easy to cut yourself, your clothes, your friends if not careful. The leather is a very good cleaner and will prevent such cuts.

5.) Be careful of glass dust: Always be aware of the sharp edges caused by cutting glass and the tiny particles created by breaking it up. Use a spray bottle to lightly wet down your work area before sweeping up glass dust.
