Press Release
Press releases notify the press about upcoming art exhibits
and events. For print and online media, they provide information
to arts calendars and invite critics to write something about
your work. The press release should be sent out up to three
months prior to the event.
A press release is usually a one or two page document full
of factual information. It answers the questions: who, what,
where, and when.
1. Date of the press release
2. Name of the exhibit or performance
3. Name(s) of the artist(s)
4. Exhibition curator (if there is one)
5. Name of the Gallery
6. Dates of the exhibit
7. Reception time and date (if there is one)
Put this information in a list form using bold letters
or capital letters to emphasize it.
Next comes the body of the press release. Try to write in
an interesting and engaging style.Mail your press releases
via first class mail. Send one to all appropriate newspapers,
local weeklies, art publications, free papers, university
papers, radio stations, and online art listings.
