Art Alliances
There are two important aspects of having a successful artistic
livelihood. The first is to create art that you love and that
is important to you personally. The second is building a network
of connections that can help you get information that will
benefit your career and help you get your work validated.
Museums and Commercial
Galleries
Art professionals such as curators, dealers, and critics are
in the role of evaluating, displaying, buying, and selling
artwork. They (of course) are good connections to create.
Success is often measured not only financially but also positionally-
what sells, to whom, and where the work is placed.
Keep Informed – Sources
of Information
There are many sources of information available. National,
regional, and local art magazines are good to pick up now
and then to keep up with theory concepts, news, and current
art. Online websites are easy to explore and can be fun to
browse on rainy days. Word of Mouth is timely and tailored
to what you are interested in so can be very valuable and
beneficial to you.
An exciting way to reach a large community is the online forums.
By keeping in touch socially and professionally you are able
to pick up on new information and you also become known as
a person to others.
However you choose to inform yourself, find people to help
you in your work. A cooperative network of artists, art professionals,
and perceptive people is necessary for growth. Collaborations
are a fun way to involve your self with other artists. Collaborations
(for those who don’t know) are when two or more artists
jointly produce a work that both own and for which both receive
equal credit. Artists may decide to work collaboratively because
the ideas generated may be richer then one individually
Making it Happen
You have the power to make things happen for your artistic
livelihood. If you need a group of artists to exchange ideas
and share opportunities, then join or start a glass art organization.
Find artists that you admire and take classes. Attend lectures,
go to a symposium, make it happen. Being an artist means being
creative in many aspects!
