Advertising Your Work With Style
Trade shows set an industry standard in any large commerce in the United States and Canada. A complete season of work will normally be organized in one weekend. Wholesalers are bringing their most exciting work and retailers are showcasing their ability to sell the work for the right price to the right people.

For example, the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft (BMAC) is quickly growing and has been rated in tradeshows week as a top fifty fastest growing trade show. For the artist who works in the wholesale market, the BMAC offers the world’s largest venue for buyers and artists to meet. The two shows a year are for members only and provide an excellent environment for craft gallery owners, jewelry store owners, mail order catalog retailers, and other buyers to meet with and establish business relations with the artists.

To become a member of the BMAC the application is available online. There are a list of requirements to join and a step-by-step guide to the process on the website. The benefits of joining the BMAC are many but the bottom line is sales. When you submit your application the process involves submitting five slides for application that will also be used to show your work to others.

As an artist, the need to spend more time in the studio then any normal person could comprehend is very real. The expenses are always coming in and time (as always) becomes a big factor. A good artist sometimes is also a good wholesaler, but not always. The need for a link between the artist and the buyer is very important. The quality and time put into your product needs to be maintained all the way to the person who purchases the art including the photos and catalog design of your work. An artist needs to uphold a reputation of high quality by dealing with designers who hold the same values for all aspects of their product.

The photographic representation of your work is as important a link as any in this process. Photography can bring the quality standard you as an artist put into your piece and transfer this to the council for application. The application admission to shows such as the BMAC is only a start to an exciting relationship with new people in the business world.
